Cowboy Church of Tarrant County
Mel & Karen Hooten love the Lord and have a wide range of experience ministering to people.
After retiring from full-time Christian ministry, Mel and his wife Karen traveled in their RV for a year seeking to serve God in any way He would lead them. Now sensing God’s leading to settle and serve in one place as church planters, they are excited to know what God has in mind for Cowboy Church of Tarrant County.
Mel Hooten is a compassionate man with a powerful message. He relates well to all ages and all kinds of people. Born in Tulia, Texas, Mel grew up around ranching and farming, working cattle with his father, and hiring out as a farm and ranch hand during his college years.
“Pastor Mel” holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Wayland Baptist University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, but truly he is just a country boy at heart.
Mel has served as Pastor for churches in Texas, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Iowa for over 40 years He is a Bible expository preacher of God’s Word. He also has advanced experience as chaplain in two large hospitals in Texas. Additionally, Mel was Counselor and Bereavement Coordinator for Hospice of Lubbock.
Karen is a Registered Nurse. She ministers alongside Mel and has served as church secretary, music director, teacher and counselor. A city girl, Karen has always loved rodeos and country music. Being around cowboys and cowgirls is the thrill of her life. Mel and Karen have six grown children with families living in Texas and Colorado.
